The primary motion in a small milling machine is the rotary motion of the milling cutter, while the movement of the workpiece and the milling cutter serves as the feed motion. This machine can be used to machine flat surfaces, grooves, various contours, and even gears. A small milling machine uses a milling cutter to perform milling operations on a workpiece. In addition to milling flat surfaces, grooves, gear teeth, threads, and spline shafts, it can also process more complex shapes. Compared to planers, it offers higher efficiency and is widely used in mechanical manufacturing and repair departments.

Daily Maintenance of Small Milling Machines

  1. Keep the machine bed and its components clean by removing metal chips and maintaining a tidy surrounding environment. Clean the tools, clamps, and measuring instruments.

  2. Check the oil levels in all areas; ensure they do not fall below the minimum mark. Lubricate all necessary parts.

Routine Maintenance of Small Milling Machines

  1. Cleaning

    • Parts can be removed and clean all oil felt pads.

    • Wipe down all sliding surfaces and guide rails, clean the worktable, the transverse, and elevating screws, and wipe the feeding mechanism and tool holder.

    • Clean every corner and crevice.

  2. Lubrication

    • Ensure all oil holes are clean and unobstructed, and apply lubricant.

    • Lubricate the guide rails, sliding surfaces, and screws.

    • Check the transmission mechanism's oil tank and oil level, adding oil to the appropriate level.

  3. Tightening

    • Inspect and tighten the press plate and inlay strip screws.

    • Check and secure the screws on the sliding blocks, feeding mechanism, handwheel, worktable support screws, and fork top screws.

    • Tighten any other loose screws.

  4. Adjustment

    • Inspect and adjust the tension of the belts, press plates, and inlay strips as necessary.

    • Check and adjust the alignment of the sliding blocks and screws.

  5. Corrosion Prevention

    • Remove rust from all parts, protect the painted surfaces, and avoid collisions.

    • Apply anti-corrosion oil to the machine's guide rails, sliding screws, handwheels, and other exposed, rust-prone areas when the machine is not in use.

Proper and consistent maintenance of small milling machines is crucial for extending their lifespan and ensuring machining precision. Therefore, attention should be given to the machine’s condition before, during, and after processing operations.Xendoll will provide a series of operating instructions and videos to guide you in use and maintenance.
